Overview
Detecting and correcting technical errors is crucial for improving players’ skills effectively. Using TennisGate’s resources, here are some ways coaches can approach this process.
Step 1
Specific solutions for common errors
TennisGate offers a large amount of targeted drills for corrections.
Go to “Methodology”, select the topic “Corrections”. As we are less concerned with technique in Level 1 than with achieving a rally, most frequent corrections occur in Playing Levels 2 and 3.
Step 2
Choose the playing level and the type of stroke
For this example, let’s assume your players are at Levels 2 and 3.
And we assume that your player has problems with his forehand. So we select the filters
- Level 2 and 3
- leave Corrections checked
- add “Correcting Technique” to Focus and further narrow the selection by selecting “Forehand” for Strokes
- and “Topspin” for Key Technical Elements.
Step 3
Get more specific
We can specify further in the filter selection by adding in “Key technical Elements” the section of the stroke where we suspect the error, for example: backswing.
Now choose your Training tip, in this example we choose “Correcting a lack of rotation in a Forehand preparation”.
Step 4
Save your drill in a collection
Choose your drill and save it in a collection, for example: “My Favorite FH Corrections”.
Step 5
Develop your coaching skills
If you want to improve your coaching skills in this area of error correction, then take a look at the “Solving Problems” category in the CoachesClub. In this section we have many videos for you that provide a deeper understanding on a number of coaching topics.
