"Beat the bounce" is a term used in top international tennis. If you strive to achieve this, you will consistently be quicker to the ball.

Teaching the players to swing with a loop

A common mistake many tennis players make is positioning the racket too low and keeping it static before swinging forward. Starting from a static position often results in insufficient momentum, making it challenging to generate power and pace in your shots.

To avoid this, it’s better to set up with the racket held high. This allows the arms to relax and create natural momentum as you move towards the ball. By starting high, you can bring the racket down and forward in a smooth, continuous motion, rather than trying to generate power from a standstill.

A useful exercise to practice this involves focusing on the ball, setting up high, moving, and then swinging. The key is to maintain the high setup position and wait until the right moment to bring the racket down and forward. This approach helps in maintaining a fluid motion, ensuring better control and more powerful shots.

Even though some players manage to generate pace from a static position, incorporating a slight loop in your swing is generally more effective. It reduces the risk of mistakes and enhances the overall quality of your shots by providing a natural flow and momentum.

By adopting this high setup technique, you can significantly improve your swing dynamics, resulting in more consistent and powerful shots on the court.
